So White, Invisible is a song I wrote in response to the tragic incident in Portapique, Nova Scotia in April 2021. It is a satirical reflection on white male entitlement and violence.

(Dedicated in humility to the residents of the Portapique, Nova Scotia)

I glue my moustache
And comb back my hair
Brush my teeth and give an Icy cold stair
I check my name tag and straighten my tie
I look the part. Do you see through my disguise?

False ride, wounded pride
Bought stickers in the mail
I am the hero of this bedtime fairytale
I have a message
One last lesson left to tell:
Respect the man or else I’ll see you in hell

Dark night, moon was bright
Red shadow on the road
I move from house to house
And make my message known
You should have sung my praise
But now the earth’s about to quake
Cause I’m not the law
and yes this badge is a fake

This is my march, my final celebration
This is my fight, against this forced castration
My marble arch will tell the world my story
Until the end comes
Keep singing songs of my glory

Oh what a shame things had to end in such a way
I bought my tank of gas and never got to pay
I’d sink my teeth in every rotten stinking’ mouth
But now my jobs complete and I’m heading south

I am the man, the son and soon I’ll be the ghost
My name will ring out across the land from coast to coast
You tried to take away my seat above the rest
But you’ll regret that when I win this final test
